Northeastern Ontario Fishing Tour!

I just arrived home after an 8-day fishing tour throughout the Northeastern Ontario region and what a trip it was! This adventure was a dream opportunity as I had the chance to visit 4 different lodges and sample the fishing at each location. I’ll be writing articles over the coming weeks about each lodge as well as highlighting my fishing experiences while visiting the region. These stories will be published on the Northeastern Ontario blog.

The route: I departed from my home in Ottawa and stopped at 4 different lodges in the region.

The trip began with visiting Bear’s Den Lodge on the French River. Eric joined me for this adventure and we departed at 2am on Friday so we could make the most of day one out on the water. I fell in love with the French River last year when I visited the upper section and it was great to fish the lower section of the river this time around.

We had a blast right from the beginning with some of the craziest musky activity I’ve experienced!

Thank you to our hosts at Bear’s Den Lodge (Brenda, Art, Joe, and Buddy) for such a great experience during our stay!

Our next stop was the Sportsman’s Lodge Wilderness Resort located on the shores of Kukagami Lake. What a beautiful place! We had a riot catching loads of smallmouth and it didn’t take us long to find an effective pattern on the lake. George and his family were wonderful hosts!

After a day and a half on the lake, it was time to pull the boat off the lake and head to our next destination.

Our third stop on this tour took us to Beaverland Camp located in Marten River. Our hosts Lori and Mike were fantastic right from the moment we arrived. They spoiled us!

So nice to have the boat docked and ready just steps outside of our cottage!

A video taken as I was releasing a nice smallmouth during our visit to Beaverland Camp. Time FLEW by as it always does while having fun, and we made our way to our final stop on the tour.

We arrived at Camp Conewango to be greeted by the lovely owners Wendy and Chris. Our home for the remainder of the trip was a beautiful waterfront cottage on Talon Lake. We quickly launched the boat and got straight to business. It didn’t take long before Eric got into this nice smallmouth bass!

Just the same as our time at Camp Conewango began, it ended off with another nice fish caught by Eric! I enjoyed netting and photographing this gorgeous largemouth before Eric released it back into the lake.

It’s always sad when it’s time to head home from a fishing trip. All of our hosts made us feel right at home providing everything we needed (and MUCH more) for a great experience. I look forward to writing more detailed fishing reports as well as a feature on each of the lodges/camps we stayed at. We took hundreds of photos so I’ll have to spend some time going through those as well. A big thanks to Northeastern Ontario Tourism for hosting us!

After arriving back at home and getting a bit of sleep, I hit the road again for another quick adventure. More details to follow in my next blog 🙂

  1. Sounds like a awesome trip! Currently I am in larder lake struggling to catch a pickerel, any tips? Dad and have fished all kinds of structure shallow and deep and have only caught one pickerel. There seems to be all kinds of small mouth around fifteen to twenty feet.
Later this week my Dad and I are heading threw Matawa and ending up in Carp for Friday/Saturday. Do you have any spare time this week for fishing?
